7 cities in 11 days: a review of the Haseltine Lake Brexit roadshow

12 Dezember 2018

On the 24th of November Daniel Chew and Michael Conway embarked on an extensive 2-week ‘roadshow’ tour of Asia taking in 7 cities across China, Taiwan and South Korea. The aim of the trip was to deliver a number of “Brexit and IP” seminars detailing the possible implications for Asian companies in a ‘deal’ or ‘no-deal’ scenario and emphasising Haseltine Lake’s position as a company with a steady presence in both the EU and UK; ideally placed to continue our stewardship of clients’ European IP portfolios whatever the outcome.

Daniel, who is a partner in the Electronics Team as well as the Lead Partner for Asia, and Michael, who is a Partner in the Trade Marks & Brand Identity Team, began their trip in Taipei. From here they headed to Taichung and then onto New Taipei City, before making their way across to Southern China and the cities of Guangzhou and Shenzhen, followed by Shanghai and Beijing.

On the 2nd-4th December Daniel took a break from the roadshow to attend the IPBC Asia event in Shanghai, where he had the opportunity to interact with IP experts and business leaders from around the world on issues including, IP value creation strategies, IP investment and litigation trends in the Asia-Pacific region. Daniel also had the honour of presenting the Semiconductors Team of the Year award at the Asia IP Elite Gala Dinner and Awards ceremony.

Michael and Daniel were reunited in Seoul, where they delivered a final seminar to members of the Korean Patent Attorneys Association. A fitting end to an excellent trip, the seminar in Seoul was a particular success, as Michael presented to a full house of around 50 corporate and private practice attorneys.

As well as delivering a total of 16 seminars, the trip also provided an opportunity for visits to direct corporate clients, business meetings and networking with many IP professionals.

Daniel Chew comments “This trip was important for us to continue to strengthen our presence in Asia. As well as building on our existing relationships, it was a great opportunity to meet new contacts in the IP profession. As a result of the trip more Asian businesses than ever before are familiar with the Haseltine Lake name and our reassuring presence across Europe.”
